trying to replace a one handle shower ''faucet'' handle

can a new fixture be installed in the old plubing
If you want to replace the entire fixture. You need to cut a
hole for access from the other side of the wall. The old fixture is likely
soldered to the pipes.
If it is a ''Ball-style'' handle, there is usually a 1'' (or
so) disc in the center that can be pried off, then there is a screw
inside, usually a Phillips-head.
If it is a lever-style handle, there is usually a small set-screw
underneath the lower bottom of the handle, usually an Allen screw. Back it
part way out, far enough to pull off the handle, but not so far that you lose the screw down the drain. The above assumes that you are merely replacing the handle, nothing else. But if you ever have to replace washers, etc., this is the 1st step in that process, too.
